A former member of the House of Representatives from Zamfara State, Alhaji Mohammed Sani Takori, has accused incumbent Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima of alleged diversion of N1.08billion constituency project fund.
The fund, Takori, who represented Bukkuyum/ Gummi Federal Constituency, claimed, was meant for the Zamfara West Senatorial District comprising Bakura, Maradun, Mafara, Anka, Bukkuyum and Gummi local governments areas of the state.
Takori, also a former attorney general and commissioner for justice in the state, made the disclosure in an exclusive interview with our correspondent in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital.
According to him, “In Zamfara West Senatorial District, we have missed N1.08billlion constituency projects under the office of Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima.
“I wrote a letter to Yarima, and told him to come back and explain to his constituents about the projects. “I have interviewed the contractors, and I know what they told me about the money. I would have given you the list of projects that are missing. In Zamfara West, we have irrigation dam construction in Anka, Gummi and Bukkuyum. “I wrote a letter to the Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority under the Public Information Act, as a lawyer, and they gave me the list of projects and money paid and their location. Our investigation revealed that in all the locations mentioned, nothing was done there.
“That was why I wrote Senator Ahmed Sani Yarima to notify him that these jobs have not been done. And when we calculated the money, it was N1.08billion.”
Continuing, Takori said, “If an elected Senator or a member of the House of Representatives that is supposed to provide amenities to the people diverts N1.08billion constituency project fund, then what do we call you?”
In his reaction, the former Zamfara State governor and the senator currently representing the district in the National Assembly, threatened to take the former lawmaker to court over the allegation.
Yarima, who spoke with our correspondent on the phone, said, “Whatever he (Takori) said, do your work. You know what is right and what is wrong, I will take him to court. Where is the petition?”
The former governor had initially sent a text message to our correspondent, claiming, “I have not seen the petition. So, how can I react, to say what?”
Meanwhile the former lawmaker has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to set up a special committee to investigate constituency projects in the country.
According to him, “If you go to Sokoto Rima River Basin Development Authority you will find out cheques that have been collected for Jobs not done.
“The best thing President Muhammadu Buhari can do now is to set up a special committee to investigate constituency projects from inception to date, and I am ready to serve in that committee”
