A former Registrar of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, Dr Oladele Al-Hassan Ogunleye, has petitioned the Commissioner of Police, Olawale Olokode, over the alleged assassination attempt on his life by the Rector of the institution, Dr. John Taiwo Adekolawole; a police officer, Isaac Adekunle Omoleye; and one Rotimi Adekunle Orowole.

Ogunleye, who was the Registrar of the institution between 2010 and 2020, accused the trio of attempts to hack him to death for allegedly exposing their frame-up against him.

In a petition dated November 17, 2021, the former Registrar urged the police to investigate what he termed “False information, conspiracy, abuse of office and criminal defamation,” against the Rector, Omoyele and Orowole.

Ogunleye, through his lawyer, Kanmi Ajibola, alleged that he was arrested on July 2, 2019 by security operatives from the disbanded Federal SARS via a warrant of arrest obtained from Igbosere Magistrate District, Lagos, dated June 19, 2019.

A petition by Ogunleye reads, “After a thorough investigation, the police exonerated our client having found the allegation to be false information.

“In the course of the investigation, we demanded to see the petition written against our client, we discovered non existed. To ensure we get to the root of the matter, we reported a case of false information to the police against the person that alleged our client.”

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, on Thursday, Ogunleye said since he urged the police to investigate the false information against his person, some unknown people had been trailing him for some time.

He accused the Rector of being behind the alleged assassination attempt, accusing him of (Adekolawole) plotting to frame him up for not conniving with him to siphon money while he was serving as the Registrar of the institution.

He called for police protection and also urged them to investigate the case of gun-running and attempted murder brought against him by Orowole.

His lawyer, Kanmi Ajibola, said several petitions had been written to demand that the CP in Osun State should investigate the matter but claimed that no step had been taken till date to address the issue.

When contacted on the telephone for reaction, the Rector said, “The police came to Osogbo and went to arrest Dr Ogunleye in his house for gun-running and attempted assassination on the Rector, Director of Medical Service and Director of Administration. Since then, SARS was investigating it. Now that SARS has been disbanded, another unit has taken over. So, we are waiting for the outcome of the investigation, That is all!

“He is lying, the police are watching him. You can go to Zone XI on how far he has gone.”
