The candidate of the Labour Party in the 2022 Osun State Governorship Election, Lasun Yusuf, dumped the party and joined the Peoples Democratic Party.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State announced Lasun’s defection on Wednesday at the party’s presidential campaign rally in Osogbo, the state capital.
The rally was attended by the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar; his running mate, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State; PDP national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu; and the PDP Presidential Campaign Council chairman, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State, among other party chieftains.
Lasun was a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. He contested alongside Adeleke in the July 16, 2022 election but lost to the PDP candidate.
Close to the election in July, there was a rumour that he had collapsed the party structure into that of the PDP.
He denied it calling the report “fake and the handiwork of mischief makers.”
Also, the Chairman of Labour Party LP in the state, Adebayo Bello, had said, “the news is fake. We cannot and will not collapse our structure for anybody. Those that are spreading the news are only hallucinating. Hon Lasun Yusuf remains in the race and he is hoping for victory.”
