A former Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Mamuda Aliyu Shinkafi, some former members of his cabinet and over 1,000 other stalwarts of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state have formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Shinkafi’s former deputy, Mukthar Anka; the former Secretary to the State Government during his tenure, Mammadu Bawa, also defected along with the former governor to the APC.

Receiving the ex-Zamfara governor and his supporters into the ruling party at the Trade Fair complex, Gusau, APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, described Shinkafi’s defection along with his supporters as a boost to the APC in Zamfara State.

Oyegun, who was represented by the APC Deputy National Chairman, North West, Senator Lawal Shuaibu, said with Shinkafi’s defection, the PDP had been dismembered in the state while the ruling APC had become stronger and focused.

“The coast is now clearer for the APC to be able to bring dividends of democracy to all nooks and crannies of Zamfara State and the county in general,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Shinkafi said he and his supporters took the decision with a view to contributing their quota to the development of the state.

“Our coming back to this great party was taken in the best interest of our dear state as we feel the only way to contribute was to support the good works being carried out by the incumbent Governor, Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar,” he said
