The founder, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Dr. Daniel Olukoya, has urged government agencies, educational authorities and the society at large to encourage youths to, not only focus on graduating in their courses of study but to do so with discipline and integrity.
Olukoya said this as he received an honorary doctorate degree at the 50th convocation ceremony of the University of Lagos.
Thanking the institution, he dedicated the award to the youth, urging all to encourage them with their actions.
“This award is for the youth. To which I have passionate interest and I am happy that the Government agencies are here. The youths of this country need more encouragement and more deliverance. We need to encourage the youths with our actions; let them see what they should be like in us,” he said.
He said the church, on its part, had continued to give out cars to encourage youths who graduate with first class.
“To encourage them, we said anybody from Mountain of Fire who gets a first class will be given a car. We did the first one in 2010, 19 people got first class. We did another one in 2016, 77 people had first class. This year it has gone to 300. The youths should be encouraged,” he said
Stressing the importance of inculcating in students a well-rounded education, Olukoya listed integrity, hard work and discipline as compulsory courses students should pass before they were allowed to graduate.
“I also want the government agencies to encourage the youths, such that they will cover the courses of discipline, integrity and hard work. If the youths do not pass these courses, they shouldn’t graduate. When they go out they would know how to behave. I say thank you so much for this award. “
Alongside Dr. Olukoya, two other distinguished personalities were awarded honorary doctorate degrees. They were: Jim Ovia, the founder of Zenith Bank; and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former pro-chancellor and chairman, governing council of the University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Alhaji Lateef Olufemi Okunnu.
