Abia Warriors Football Club’s player, Sheriff Bashir, has said that the resignation of Coach Okey Emordi will affect the team, especially when they lock horns against Niger Tornadoes Football Club this weekend.
Only last Monday, the former Enyimba FC handler walked away, ending a two-month relationship, after strings of uninspiring results with the Uchendo Babes. The team has yet to recover from the shocking exit of Emordi.
“It is a very sad one for us in Abia Warriors FC. We never knew that this could happen, but this is the game of football,” Bashir told Goal. “He’s a man we love He is one of the best in the game of football in Nigeria.
It will affect the performance of the team, but we will not let that affect us, we will try our possible best to play for him. Regardless of the current situation, his legacy still remains at the club.
He is a very nice man, a coolheaded man. He brought us to the limelight and it was a privilege working with him,” he said. The Umuahia Township Stadium outfit has seen their performances diminished after their early season.
The last game that had Emordi at the helms saw them suffer a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Ladan Bosso’s El Kanemi Warriors and the forward believes they can still turn the tide. “We started well, but now we are lagging behind in our performance. It has not been a good performance from us so far.
Much was expected from us,” he explained. He added, “We started the league very well and we still believe we can turn the table, you know the game of football. I believe that we are going to bounce back.”
