THE convoy of the lawmaker representing Ohaukwu North Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Chinedu Awo, has been attacked by unknown gunmen.

The lawmaker was attacked on Sunday night on his way to his hometown in Effium community.

Recall that what should have been a minor disagreement among members of the National Association of Road Transport Workers on January 22, 2021, over toll collection, unfortunately snowballed into a full-blown communal crisis between the Ezzas and their Effium neighbours, who had cohabited in the community for many decades.

Following the full-blown crisis, many lives and properties worth billions of naira have been lost, despite Governor David Umahi’s efforts and strategies aimed at ending it.

The Point gathered that the lawmaker was seriously injured during the attack and is currently receiving medical attention at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, in Abakaliki.

Also recall that following the same crisis, the state government had suspended all political appointees from Effium community and their section of the state’s multi-billion naira ring road project, sequel to the abduction of five site engineers.

As of the time of filing this report, they have not been found.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Odah Loveth, who spoke on the issue with our correspondent on the phone, promised to address the press in due time.
