The Vice-Chancellor, Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Prof. Chinedum Babalola, has said that for Nigeria to witness true and all-round development, there is the need for the education sector to fully evolve.
This, she said, could be achieved by involving award-winning graduates, as well as creative minds being turned out from the nation’s universities, in the economic development process of the nation.
The VC, who spoke during the fourth matriculation ceremony of the university at the weekends, said this step would also help in shaping the future of the country as well as prepare the youths for national development.
She said, “In preparing our students for these challenges, we plan to engage top-rated teachers or lecturers in teaching and learning. This involves those who are practicing and are willing to teach students to make them business
ready.”
The Professor of Pharmacy also added that the near future of the university is very exciting, rewarding and remarkable as students would be graduating with entrepreneurship certificates alongside their various degrees.
For instance, she said, “In Chrisland University, we nurture, mentor and coach students in the best standards possible not only academically but also morally and
socially”.
On accreditation of courses, the VC said the institution recorded a 100 percent accreditation of all its nine courses both in Colleges of Arts, Social and Management Sciences and Natural and Applied
Sciences.
The VC stated further that “It is, indeed, a feat for us because it is the same yardstick; it is the same tool used for universities that are there before us that are being used during the accreditation exercise.”
Babalola disclosed the institution’s intention to expand its programme to include College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Industrial Mathematics, Statistics, Biotechnology, Physics with Electronics, Cyber Security and Software Engineering.
On financing, she said that the school had full support of the founder because they were committed to building the university to world class institution.
Babalola stressed the need for the matriculating students to be hardworking by attend lectures regularly, carrying out their assignments, shunning bad behaviours and other vices that could truncate or elongate their academic journey, adding, “You need to continually remember that the distance between today’s ceremony and convocation ceremony is not so long. Ensure that the journey ends successfully”.
Earlier in his speech, the Managing Director, Forte Upstream Services Limited, Mr. Oluseye Alabi, said the students should avoid whatever could malign the integrity of the university, saying, “My admonition to you to work hard is not to make you what is colloquially referred to as triangular students but you must endeavour to enjoy yourselves by engaging in positive social activities.”
On what is expected of them, Alabi said, “As youths, the energy and drive that abound in you is huge and powerful. It can be deployed for good or bad. Please, for the sake of those coming behind you, use this boundless energy to make positive impact and be a blessing to the society”.
In her remarks, the Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Trustees of the institution, Dr. Winifred Awosika, assured parents of the university’s determination to instill into students quality education alongside good morals.
A total of 72 students, cutting across the nine courses in Colleges of Arts, Social and Management Sciences and Natural and Applied Sciences, matriculated at on the
occasion.
