Former Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Willy Akinlude, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states are free and fair.

Speaking with The Point, Akinlude said INEC should provide a level playing ground for all political parties and their candidates in the elections.

He said, “I hereby call on INEC to ensure that all political parties are given a level playing ground. INEC should maintain neutrality and ensure that peoples’ votes count in the two elections.

“Palliative packages were meant for the entire citizens but were given to only APC members, while non-members of APC were neglected. It is a shame on the part of the Buhari-led Federal Government. Nigerians were shunned, once you have no APC membership identity card”

“There should be no undue support for any particular party or candidate. The Mahmood Yakubu-led INEC should write its name in gold by carrying out free, fair and accceptable elections in September in Edo and October in Ondo.”

Akinlude, a two time chairman of Mushin Local Government Council in Lagos State, criticised the recent sharing of palliatives to cushion the harsh effect of COVID-19 pandemic by the All Progressives Congress-led government, saying only APC members benefitted from the distribution of palliatives.

Akinlude said Nigerians, who were not APC card-carrying members were neglected by the ruling party.

“Palliative packages were meant for the entire citizens but were given to only APC members, while non-members of APC were neglected. It is a shame on the part of the Buhari-led Federal Government. Nigerians were shunned, once you have no APC membership identity card,” Akinlude said.
