The leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Edo North Senatorial District has unanimously endorsed Senator Adams Oshiomhole for a second term in the Nigerian Senate, solidifying his political standing ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was declared during a high-level caucus meeting in Iyamho, Oshiomhole’s hometown, following a security summit with Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.
The dual-purpose gathering focused on pressing regional security concerns and the party’s strategic direction.
According to a statement released on Thursday by Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah, Media Assistant to the Minister of Regional Development, “the endorsement effectively closes the door to internal contention over the Edo North Senate ticket within the APC.”
The meeting was attended by prominent APC stakeholders, including the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh; former Minister of Budget and National Planning, Clement Agba; APC elder, Francis Alimikhena; South-South political strategist, Blessing Agbomhere; Dekeri Anamero; Chief Abu; Chief Ohimai; and Ernest Umakhihe, among others.
It was during deliberations that Momoh posed the pivotal question regarding Oshiomhole’s return to the Senate.
The response, as described in the statement, was “instant and deafening a thunderous and unanimous chorus of approval that left no room for doubt.”
In a symbolic show of unity, the leaders declared: “No vacancy in Edo North Senate seat.”
This endorsement is seen as a strategic move aimed at ensuring legislative continuity and sustained influence for Edo North at the national level. Oshiomhole, a former Edo State Governor and ex-National Chairman of the APC, has gained a reputation in the Senate for his vocal advocacy and dynamic presence.
“Senator Oshiomhole has demonstrated unflinching commitment to Edo North and national development. This endorsement is a reaffirmation of our trust in his leadership,” said one senior APC chieftain.
Prior to the endorsement, party leaders joined Governor Okpebholo for a security summit addressing recent criminal activity in communities across Etsako, Owan, and Akoko-Edo.
The meeting produced a comprehensive roadmap involving enhanced surveillance, community policing, and inter-agency cooperation.
Governor Okpebholo assured stakeholders of swift implementation, stating: “We must secure our homes before we can talk about progress. Today’s summit has laid a strong foundation for that.”
