Ebonyi govt. seeks economic diversification

In accordance with the economy diversification bid by the Federal Government, the Ebonyi State Government says it has entered into a memorandum of understanding with a group of investors for the development of palm plantation under Public Private Partnership arrangement.

The Commissioner for Information in the state, Uchenna Orji, said this at the end of the weekly State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House, Abakaliki.

Orji said that the state government donated a total of 32.4 hectares of land at Akaeze and Okwe in Ivo Local Government Area of the state.

He added that the investors would manage the plantation with the hope of diversifying the economy of the state.

Orji said the Council approved the redeployment of the Commissioner for Project Monitoring, Oluchukwu Ukezeali, to Ministry of Infrastructural Development for Concession which became vacant following the demise of the pioneer Commissioner, Fidelis Nweze.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr Sunday Nwangele, also told journalists that the Council gave approval to finetune plans to establish two more universities in the state namely University of Aeronautic Engineering in Ezza South Local Government Area and University of Information Communication Technology in Oferekpe community in Izzi Local Government Area.
