Ebonyi community accuses Teaching Hospital CMD of incompetence, negligence

The people, traditional rulers and other stakeholders of Uburu community in Ebonyi State have accused the Chief Medical Director of David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital Uburu, Prof. Uzoma Agwu of incompetence, negligence, systemic abuse, leadership failures, and blatant disregard to host the community.

They made these accusations during a peaceful protest in Uburu on Tuesday where they demanded probe and replacement of the hospital management, finances and operations.

In a statement addressed to the Federal Ministry for Health, DUFUTH governing council and Ebonyi State Government, the community stakeholders led by the traditional rulers held, “We the people, leadership and stakeholders of Uburu Adu Kingdom, the host community of David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital Uburu Ebonyi State, stand today to raise our voices in resolute protest against the gross mismanagement, systemic abuse, leadership failures, blatant disregard to host community and her leadership by the Chief Medical Director, Prof Uzoma Agwu and the CMAC, Dr Darlington Peter Ugoji.

“As a people, we are firsthand witnesses of the alarming deterioration of the infrastructure and health care delivery at the hospital, a hospital primed to deliver the best healthcare in Africa.

“We are angry at the erosion of public trust as patients are constantly being referred to Abakaliki and the calculated destruction of our community’s treasured healthcare institution. As a people, we can no longer remain silent while our people suffer due to incompetence, negligence and malicious action of those entrusted with the care of this national asset.”

They therefore demanded appointment of a competent leadership team, adding, “We demand appointment of competent individuals with competent track record in hospital management integrity and genuine commitment to public service. A thorough investigations into the hospital finances, operations and CMD’s actions must be conducted and the findings.ade public. Urgent rehabilitation of infrastructure and replacement of damaged essentials equipments…”

When contacted, Agwu, via a statement signed by the hospital Public Relations Officer, Agwu Nwogo said, “The accusations concocted against them are not only baseless but also a gross misrepresentation of the facts.”
