THE Department of State Services has invited renowned Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, for questioning over his comments in a TV interview, which allegedly suggested that security operatives were aiding bandits’ operations.
Gumi was invited to the Kaduna office of the DSS, according to a report by the Voice of America, Hausa Service, monitored on Friday.
Military authorities frowned at Gumi’s comments, which allegedly portrayed the Nigerian Military in bad light.
Spokesperson for the Islamic scholar, Tukur Mamu, however, dismissed the allegation against his principal.
He told VOA Hausa that his principal did not categorically accuse the entire military anywhere in the TV interview in question.
Mamu said Gumi only re-echoed what people had been saying, noting that “even the soldiers have been saying that there could be some bad eggs among them.”
He, therefore, called on the Military and the TV company to tender an apology to Gumi and retract their statements against him or face legal action.
