A 40-year-old commercial driver, Gafar Hasan, has been remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre for allegedly stealing cigarettes and alcoholic drinks among other items.
Hasan was arraigned before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State recently by the Police on the account of theft.
He was said to have broken into a trader’s shop and stolen the said items on April 17 at Old Garage Area, Osogbo around 2:20am.
The stolen items, belonging to Omowumi Oyetola, were valued at N20, 000.
The charge against the defendant read that “Gafar Hasan, on April 17, 2022 at about 2:20am at Old Garage, Osogbo, did break and enter into a shop of one Oyetola Omowumi and committed an offence therein contrary to and punishable under Section 413 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State.
“You (defendant), at the same place and time, did steal Fearless Energy drink, nineteen video discs, three alcoholic drinks, one Action Bitter alcoholic drink, one pair of slippers, 25 sticks of cigarettes, with total value of N20, 000 only, properties of one Oyetola Omowumi and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun, 2002.
Hasan pleaded not guilty to the two-count-charge slammed against him. The defence counsel, T. B. Ayodele, urged the court to grant the accused person bail in affordable and liberal terms.
Police prosecutor, Fagboyinbo Abiodun, did not object to the bail application.
Magistrate A. O. Daramola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in the same amount.
She adjourned the matter till May 30 for hearing.
The defendant could not perfect the bail conditions and, thereafter, was taken to Ilesa Correctional C Facility pending the date of adjournment.
