A trader named Susan on Wednesday morning dragged her husband before some selected elders of her community over his insistence on campaigning for Godwin Obaseki.

The drama occurred at a small community named Izakagbo in Ovia.

The tearful Susan in her query told the elders of the community that her husband was hell-bent on campaigning for Godwin Obaseki even after Edo State Government owed both of them over 11 months salary.

The little drama caused a stir in the area as some members of the community wondered why she made so much trouble over her husband’s personal decision on who to campaign for.

According to an eye witness, the woman, who was clinging on to a four months old baby, lamented all the sufferings her family had gone through in the past year.

She explained her ordeal and how she had single-handedly taken care of their family of five, all the while, from her little trade, only for her husband to accept to be a coordinator for Obaseki’s reelection.

She said, “How can my husband be so insensitive? We are both staff of the College Of Education, Ekiadolor. Godwin Obaseki shut down our institution and has refused to pay the staff their salaries and pensions for the past 11 months.

“Since the unfortunate incident, I made concerted efforts to raise a loan from my cooperative to start a small-scale trade. That is what I have been using to feed our three children and my husband.”

The woman added, “My last child is suffering from an ailment, which we have yet to diagnose because we have little or no money for proper healthcare. This same man refused to look for a means of livelihood other than to be holding political meetings here and there.

“For the past one week, the situation of our last child has deteriorated only for my husband to dress up today and say it is 4 +4 rally he is attending.”

The woman who was in tears all through said her family had gone through a lot of hardship over the inability of the Edo State Government to pay the staff of the institution their wages and entitlements, and argued that her husband should have been at least sensitive not to throw his decision in her face.

“Even if oga does not have a job he should not throw it in my face. How can he support Obaseki who refused to pay us our wages and put us in this our current state of hopelessness?”

The matter was amicably settled by the elders who pleaded with the husband to be more considerate and support the family financially.

In the past six months, Adhoc staff of the Edo State Government have been complaining over non-payment of their wages and salaries.

A few days ago, front-line workers for the COVID-19 Task Force protested over the failure of Edo State Government to pay them their three months wages also.

However, some analysts have said that the protests are coming one after the other for political reasons, which may be aimed at discrediting the governor, who is seeking re-election.
