Everton have confirmed the signing of Super Eagles-eligible midfielder Tim Iroegbunam for an undisclosed fee.
The England U20 international ended his association with Aston Villa after putting pen to paper on a three-year contract with the Toffees, until June 30, 2027.
He becomes Everton’s first signing of the summer transfer window and will begin training with his new teammates at the start of pre-season preparations early next month.
Iroegbunam has made the switch to Merseyside after appearing in nineteen matches across all competitions for Aston Villa, comprising twelve in the Premier League, five in the UEFA Conference League, and one apiece in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
In his first words as an Everton player, the former West Brom schoolboy said: “I’m very pleased. Everton is an amazing club, a big club and I’m just really happy to join and I can’t wait to get started.
“It was a move that I didn’t want to pass by. I wanted to take the opportunity.
“When I spoke to Kevin Thelwell, he told me more about the Club – its history, the future and where they see me playing.
“It made me feel very excited because there are big things coming, especially with the new stadium.”
Iroegbunam spent time on loan at Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers during the 2022-2023 season, scoring two goals in thirty-two outings and was a strong candidate to be named in the Young Lions roster for the 2023 World Cup, only to suffer an injury that ruled him out of the tournament.
The 20-year-old was one of three players of Nigerian descent who won the 2022 European U19 Championship with England, alongside Hearts newbie Daniel Oyegoke and Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka.
