A man, simply identified as Ismaila, has told an Igando, Lagos Customary Court that he followed his doctor’s advice not to ejaculate during sex with his wife, Aminat Ismaila, but that she is now pregnant for another man.
The 34-year-old man is, therefore, seeking the dissolution of his four-year-old marriage to Amina, accusing his wife of infidelity, despite all his efforts to take proper care of her.
Ismaila told the court that he got to know about his wife’s pregnancy for another man, when she developed stomach pains and later went to a midwife for abortion.
He said, “I had not been releasing whenever we had sex, based on my doctor’s advice. Right from the day I got married to her, her way has been questionable. She has a boyfriend. The boyfriend even called her right on our matrimonial bed around 7am. How can an unmarried man call my wife around 7am?
“Her mother could testify to her infidelity. Even when I reported her to her mother, she corrected her and asked her to delete her boyfriend’s number from her mobile phone.”
Ismaila also accused his wife of almost killing him with a knife during a misunderstanding with
her.
“When she was pregnant with her twins, she brought an oil from her mother and told me to use it. After bathing and drinking out of the oil, things turned for the worse. My job became so bad to The Point that I couldn’t feed my family anymore,” he added.
In her defence, Aminat said her husband lied against her. She also said she used a knife to defend herself, when her husband threatened to kill her with a cutlass.
“He brought out cutlass the first and second time, then the third time, I picked up a knife to defend myself,” she said.
She also denied the allegation of conversing with a man on phone on her matrimonial bed.
Amina said, “I have never cheated on my husband. The man that called me was my JAMB mate. I called him after missing his call the night before. It was around 9am that I spoke with him.
“I was not pregnant for any man. I was only having pain below my abdomen after an operation I had while giving birth to our child. My husband was just being suspicious over what is not real.
“About the oil, it was given to me by my mother. She got it from a church. Everybody that used out of the oil never complained except
him.”
She, however, pleaded with the court not to dissolve her marriage, adding that she still loved her husband.
In his ruling, the President of the court, Akin Akinniyi, asked that the couple should be subjected to dispute resolution mechanism.
He told them that the court was not just for dissolving marriages, but also exhausts all opportunities to reconcile warring couples.
