Delta Air Lines has apologised to a Nigeria passenger delayed and also made to sleep over at the airport on an uncomfortable chair.
A Nigerian passenger was delayed at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos last week, causing him to miss his connecting flight in Atlanta.
Despite being rescheduled for another flight with a nearly seven-hour wait, the airline allegedly refused to provide hotel accommodation or lounge access to the passenger.
This development infuriated the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, causing its Director of Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, to threaten action over the development.
Giving an update on the development on Monday, Achimugu confirmed that the airline has apologised for the inhuman treatment meted out to the passenger.
The NCAA publicist also stated that the authority has scheduled a meeting with a team of delegates from the airline before the end of the week.
“They have contacted the passenger and also apologised to him for the incident. We have also called for a meeting but they begged that they may not be able to make it to Nigeria on Wednesday, we have told them that they must be here for a meeting before the end of the week,” Achimugu said.
The NCAA spokesperson said the passenger must agree that his name is made known, citing the data protection law.
Air Peace offers students 15% discount on Nigeria-London flights
In a related development, Air Peace has announced a 15 per cent discount on economy-class tickets for students travelling on its Nigeria-London routes.
This is according to a statement from the airline’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ejike Ndiulo, on Monday.
The statement said, “In a commitment to making air travel more accessible, the airline is extending its exclusive 15% student discount on economy-class tickets for flights between Nigeria and London, ensuring students can fly at reduced fares while enjoying world-class service.”
The exclusive discount applies to economy-class tickets and is aimed at students pursuing higher education abroad, particularly in the UK, Europe, USA, and Canada.
“This offer presents an excellent opportunity for parents and students preparing for the summer return from school to Nigeria,” the airline stated. “By leveraging this discount, students enrolled in full-time educational programs at accredited institutions can enjoy significant savings on their travels,” it added.
To qualify, applicants must be 25 years old or younger and provide a valid student ID, student visa, and an enrollment verification letter. The discounted tickets are available for booking through Air Peace’s official website and remain valid for one year from the date of travel.
However, the tickets are non-transferable and non-refundable. Students can submit their passport data page and required documents via the airline’s designated platform under the ‘student discount’ section on the website.
“Beyond student travellers, Air Peace is also rewarding other passengers with an ongoing promotional offer that allows travelers to earn over N600, 000 in savings when they connect any of Air Peace’s major domestic destinations to London. As an added benefit, passengers on this route are entitled to one extra piece of free luggage, enhancing convenience for those traveling with more baggage,” the statement said.
The airline emphasised its dedication to offering top-tier in-flight services, including premium comfort and a selection of continental meals tailored to diverse tastes.
“This special promo runs until March 31, 2025, with an extended travel period until April 15, 2025,” it added.
