THE Peoples Democratic Party, on Wednesday, warned that it would not allow the lawmaker representing Adamawa North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Elisha Abbo, run away with its mandate.
The party was reacting to the senator’s defection from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress, which was announced by Senate President Ahmad Lawan during plenary.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, warned that the lawmaker was fully aware of the constitutional implication of his defection, noting that the PDP had already commenced the process for replacing him in the Senate.
Abbo had said in his defection letter that he was defecting because of the mismanagement of his former party in Adamawa, adding that there was also the need to join hands with President Muhammadu Buhari to partake in what he described as his unprecedented achievements in office.
Indicating that PDP was not disturbed by his defection, Ologbondiyan said, “He (Abbo) is fully aware of the constitutional implication of his decision to defect to another party; which is that he cannot continue to occupy the seat of the PDP in the Senate.
“The place of any Senator who changed parties except on the grounds provided by the Constitution is very clear and the PDP will not allow Senator Abbo to run away with our mandate. It is impossible. Our party has already commenced the process for his replacement with a credible, stable and acceptable person, to take over his seat in the Senate,” he declared.
