Some members of the Association on Thursday, January 25, 2024 intercepted a group of suspects attempting to sell car parts stolen from vehicles involved in an accident at Oriuzor community in Ezza North LGA.

The incident occurred at the Abakaliki Regional Market where a member of the scrap dealers, Mr. John Azi was approached to buy the charred vehicle conveyed in a Toyota Camry car with number plate PHC 378 TX.

It was gathered that Azi, after interrogating the suspects, discovered that the charred vehicle was stolen at Oriuzor in Ezza North LGA of Ebonyi from an accident scene. The union was said to have been alerted before the suspects were apprehended.

During an interview with The Point, the chairman explained that scrap dealers in Ebonyi have been thoroughly sensitised and do not engage in illegal businesses.

The prime suspect identified as Wisdom, a dry cleaner from Oriuzor confessed to have masterminded the deal to make money.

He revealed that he dismantled a car involved in a fire accident at Oriuzor, and took it to scrap dealers in the state but it was rejected twice and he decided to sell it to a scrap dealer in Enugu.

The suspected scrap buyers who came from Enugu, Chinonso and Daniel Chima explained that they bought the vehicle for N50,000 but were apprehended by the union while trying to resell the charred vehicle at the regional market in Ebonyi.

Meanwhile, the union later handed over the suspects to the Police for investigation and prosecution.
