In a bid to enhance Cargo clearance and ease trade processes for importers and Customs agents at Nigerian Ports, the Nigeria Customs Service has launched an indigenous software-B’ Odogwu, using Port and Terminal MultiService Limited as pilot Command.
B’ Odogwu, a software developed by men and officers of the Service, is targeted at alleviating technical glitches experienced by traders with existing Software- Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System used in clearing Cargoes in Ports.
Addressing journalists in Lagos on Wednesday, Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this development saying the new software will be a replacement for NICIS which has failed to meet up with the mandate of enhancing trade facilitation, thus having impact on revenue generation.
Adeniyi guaranteed that the new indigenous software will bring more efficiency and effectiveness into cargo clearance.
According to him, “The Service will continue to engage with the stakeholders on this new software, we have our technical team who are ready to give necessary support with the role out of this software from back end to ensure it’s 100% successful, any glitches encountered in the course of this new scheme, the Service will surmount it.
“This system is very robust as it gives opportunity to learn from all other systems we’ve used before. It is a system that was developed by Officers and Men of the Service. The Pilot scheme is taking place here. I want to assure you that it is going to work, NICIS has come and is on its way out. B’ Odogwu has every feature in terms of test, versatility, the future of the Nigeria Customs Service is bright with this Software. Our main purpose is to make trade seamless for all traders and we are in due course.”
