A researcher has called for a conscious drive towards making learning more purpose-driven in anticipation of the imminent reality of the Fourth Industrial Revolution that will soon sweep across the globe.
The Director-General, Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research, Dr. Folarin Gbadebo-Smith, made the call during a public lecture entitled, “Human capital development in Nigeria and the 4th Industrial revolution,” held at the International Conference Center, Lead City University, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution, which is building on the third, is the fourth major industrial era since the initial Industrial Revolution of the 18th century.
It is characterized by a fusion of technologies that is blurring the lines between the physical, digital, and biological spheres.
Gbadebo-Smith explained that the imminent wind of change required that policy makers, institution of learning, lecturers and learners began to make deliberate efforts to prepare themselves for the demands of that era.
