A student of the Department of Mass Communication, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Mr. Lawal Sodiq, has petitioned the Department of Security Services and the police in the state, alleging threat to his life by some cultists in the institution.

Sodiq claimed that the cultists threatened to eliminate him because he reported an allegation of financial misconduct and abuse of office by the leadership of the institution’s Students’ Union.

He, therefore, appealed to the security agencies to be proactive and save him from untimely death, especially at a time when two students of the Osun State University suddenly disappeared without traces.

The National Diploma (NDII) student explained that his life had been in serious danger since he reported the suspension of the Students’ Union executives by the Students’ Representative Council.

Sodiq had written a story on the campus about the institution’s SRC, which had earlier suspended some of the elected officers of the Students Union Government for allegedly mismanaging the Union’s treasury.

The President of the Students’ Union, Muhammad Surajudeen, the Financial Secretary, Adewale Quadri and the Auditor, Olabode Olaosun, were unanimously suspended by SRC.

The SRC, which is the legislative arm of the Students’ Union, also impeached the Vice President, Ganiyu Oseni, and the Treasurer, Musa Jamiu.

In his petition to security agencies, which he copied the authority of the institution, civil society groups and journalists, Sodiq said that the threat to his life by the cultists must not be taken with levity.

Part of the petition reads, “I was in my room yesterday night (Sunday), when I received a call from an unknown caller with MTN number 09039791528, telling me to be prepared to die this week.

“The cultist said, ‘You think you can expose us with your stories. All your bosses know me. I can assure that you are gone. I will deal with you mercilessly. I will make sure you regret your action. As a matter of fact, consider yourself dead this week.”
