…as police nab 12 suspects

The residents of Ogombo community, along Ajah- Lekki- Ibeju area of Lagos State, have lamented the incessant killings in the area by suspected cultists.

The residents said that many people were already packing out from the area because of the menace of the cultists in the area and its environs.

A bloody clash, which occurred recently in the area led to the death of five suspected cultists, while scores of them escaped the scene with various degrees of injury, including innocent people.

Four of the suspected cultists were said to have been beheaded and their body-less heads found close to Abraham Adesanya Estate, along the Ajah-Epe Expressway. Police have arrested 12 suspects since the incident occurred.

One of the suspected cultists was said to have died on the way to an hospital in the area.

The Point gathered that two illegal secret societies, identified as Eiye and Aye, had been at each other’s throats for some time in the area, leading to the death of several people including their members and non-members.

One of the cult groups was said to have killed members of the other, which led to a retaliation that shocked the world recently when they beheaded four people and dumped their lifeless bodies along the expressway.

Many residents were shocked when after the fight that ensued between the two cult groups that Sunday they saw four body-less heads along the expressway.

The cultists were armed with guns, cutlasses, iron rods, among others which they used in attacking their opponents.

Policemen from Ogombo Police Station were said to have tried to drive away the hoodlums but to no avail. The station was said to have drawn the attention of the Area ‘J’ Elemoro Police Commander, Mr Gbolahan Olugbemi, an assistant commissioner of police, who led teams of policemen to the scene.

On sighting the policemen arriving the scene, the hoodlums were said to have scampered off to evade arrest but the policemen were able to nab two of them.

The police later arrested 10 people through information by the suspects and residents of the area.

One of the arrested hoodlums bore drawing of a bird in his buttocks and arms.

Some of the cultists were said to have relocated to other areas to evade arrest.

One of the residents who identified himself as Raheem Adegbemi said that, “This area used to be the most peaceful area before. That is history. The cultists in the area have turned it into a war zone. There are two cult groups fighting a battle of supremacy. The Eiye and the Aya groups. Recently, one of the cult groups killed about two or more people in the area. This one that just occurred is just the retaliation. They killed about five or more people. Four of them were beheaded. They left their body-less heads along the expressway. What sort of thing is that? The youths no longer care about their lives. They engage in dangerous schemes. They engage in evil acts. Many people are already packing away from the area. Many of them are even illiterates who did not know the usefulness of cultism. When the likes of Wole Soyinka started that in Nigeria, it was for their own good then. Now cultism is in vogue to the young men.  Many of them are jobless.”
