A lecturer in the Department of Business Management, Covenant University, Ota, Dr. Stephen Ukenna, has been arrested for allegedly raping a teenage student of the school.
The suspect, 41, was arrested following a complaint lodged at the Ota Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force by the parents of the student.
The victim, who is said to be a 17-year-old student of the institution, was reportedly lured to the lecturer’s office on Thursday under the guise of planning a surprise birthday party for her close friend.
Her parents reported that when she got to the lecturer’s office, he allegedly seized her, locked the door and forcefully had sex with her on top of a table.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident.
The PPRO said the Area Commander for Ota, Muyideen Obe, had deployed detectives to the school where they arrested the lecturer.
The suspect reportedly admitted having sex with the victim without her consent but could not state a reason for the crime.
The Police spokesperson said the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Edward Ajogun, had directed the transfer of the suspect to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for thorough investigation and prosecution.
