A 49-year-old man, Bamidele Segun Matthew, has been remanded by a Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State for allegedly possessing some live cartridges and motorcycle parts.
Matthew was said to have conspired with others at large to harbour the items suspected to have been stolen.
It was gathered that some residents had accused the defendant of stealing and dissembling motorcycles whose parts he reportedly sold to unsuspecting members of the public.
Upon the search that was conducted at the defendant’s house at Ofatedo area of Osogbo, two live cartridges and some motorcycle parts were found.
The Police prosecutor, Inspector Fatoba Temitope, informed the court that Matthew and others now at large, on January 19, at about 7:45am at Ofatedo area, Osun State conspired among themselves to commit felony with unlawful possession of live cartridges and motorcycle parts.
The charge brought against him read that “The defendant and others now at large, at the same time and place, did unlawfully have in your possession two live cartridges.
“You did unlawfully have in your possession parts of Bajaj motorcycles suspected to have been stolen or obtained illegally.”
The offences are said to be contrary to Section 4 and punishable under sections 430 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34 Volume II Laws of Osun, 2002.
Temitope said that the accused person also contravened Section 27(1)(b)(Ii) of the Firearms Act, Cap F28 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the three-count charge slammed against him.
However, Magistrate M. A. Awodele ordered that Matthew be remanded in Ilesa Correctional Centre.
He adjourned the matter till March 14 for hearing.
