A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State on Tuesday, ordered a 25-year-old man, Solomon Ochafi, to be remanded at the Abolongo Correctional Facility, pending the next court sitting.
Ochafi was charged with culpable homicide for allegedly causing the death of Elizabeth, his mother, sometimes in August.
Chief Magistrate Olaide Hamzat said that the court could not hear Ochafi’s case as it lacked jurisdiction to entertain such matter.
Hamzat directed that his case file should be transferred to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
The court adjourned the matter till November 23 for mention.
Earlier while addressing the court, the Prosecutor, Insp. Opeyemi Olagunju, said that Ochafi in August, caused the death of his 50-year-old mother.
According to Olagunju, Ochafi, after returning home from work, asked his mother for food. He allegedly pushed the woman against the wall for telling him that there was no food in the house, and she died.
The offence contravened sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Volume II, Laws of Oyo State 2000.
