A 22-year-old man, Adam Adam, resident of Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, has been remanded in prison custody for chopping off the thumb of his neighbour, Yusuf Abubakar.

The charge preferred against him read that the defendant, had in an earlier quarrel, inflicted a grievous machete injury on the biological mother of the injured neighbour.

The defendant was charged with one count charge of causing grievous hurt to the victim.

The defendant, however, denied the allegations filed against him before the court, saying, “Yusuf and I exchanged words, then it turned into a quarrel.

“It turned into a fight between my friend and his friends in the neighbourhood. That was when the complainant injured his own thumb; I did not attack him or his mother.”

The court ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody pending 30th of June, the next adjourned date.
