AN Osun State Magistrate Court sitting in Ibokun, Obokun Local Government Area, on Monday, remanded a dismissed Police Inspector, Ago Egharevba for allegedly causing a resident’s death.

Ago was said to have unlawfully hit a 20-year-old fashion designer, Ayomide Taiwo, with the butt of his gun, an action the Police said led to Taiwo’s death.

The ex-police officer reportedly hit Taiwo with the butt of his gun over an alleged N50 bribe on Tuesday, August 4, 2020.

Ayomide, after six days in coma, gave up the ghost at 08:30 am on Sunday, August 9 at the Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Osogbo, where he was receiving treatment.

It was reported that the Nigeria Police Force dismissed Ago after being tried at an orderly room.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector Oladoye Joshua, told the court that at about 5:00pm at llahun, Ijebu-ljesa Road, Ibokun Ago did unlawfully hit one Ayomide with the butt of the gun on top of a moving motorcycle, which made him lose control and fall down, which led to his death.

He further alleged that the ex Inspector of Police thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol.Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

The Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Awosan, ordered the remand of the accused in Ilesa correctional centre.

She, however, adjourned the case till October 19.
