The police in Osun State on Thursday arraigned a 12-year-old boy, Ayoola Oladele before a Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, for allegedly stealing cable wires valued at N300,000.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun, told the court that the accused committed the offence on August 21 at about 12:pm along Halleluyah Estate in Osogbo. Abiodun said that Oladele conspired with others now at large to steal cable wires worth N300,000.
The prosecution said the stolen wires were kept in an uncompleted building owned by one Oladele Samuel.
He said the owner had caught the boy and his friends while carting away the cable wires, before he raised the alarm.
According to the prosecution, it took the intervention of the neighbourhood to apprehend the accused while his friends escaped.
Some police operatives were said to have later arrived in the area and took Oladele to Dada Estate Police Station.
He said the offence committed contravened Sections 516 and 390 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.11 Laws of Osun, 2003.
But the accused boy pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of theft and conspiracy preferred against him.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Najite Okobie, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
