A 24-year-old man, Anyanwun Eberechukwu Emmanuel, has been remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre in Osun State for allegedly failing to remit the proceeds of sale of bread to his employer.
Emmanuel, a staff of Apex Supreme Bread, Lukman Rufai Street, Zone L, Iri-Owuro Area, Kobongbogboe, Osogbo, was accused of failing to remit the sum of N438, 000 to the bakery.
When arraigned before an Osogbo Chief Magistrate, the defendant was said to have failed to remit the proceeds on January 12 and 14.
The charge preferred against him read that “Emmanuel, on January 12 and 14, 2022 at Lukman Rufai Street, Zone L, Iri-Owuro Area, Kobongbogboe, Osogbo, did make sales of Apex Supreme Bread of N438, 000 only but failed to remit the money to one Suleiman Muthahiru thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the allegation without any legal representation.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Adeoye Kayode, asked the court not to grant Emmanuel bail on the ground that he could abuse the privilege.
Chief Magistrate A. A. Adebayo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200, 000 with one surety in the same amount.
According to the magistrate, the surety must be a civil servant in the Osun State Public Service not below grade level 8. He added that the place of work and residence of the surety should be verified by the prosecutor and court official.
He ordered that the surety should present his letters of appointment and last promotion to the court.
Emmanuel was unable to meet the bail conditions, hence, he was remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre.
The matter was adjourned till March 16 for hearing.
