Court remands 3 suspected cultists for killing Osun resident

A magistrate’s court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, on Wednesday, remanded three suspected members of a cult group, Aye Confraternity, in Ilesa Prison for the alleged murder of a resident of the state capital, one Akinwale Shina.
The suspected cultists docked by the police are: Mutiu Razaq, 31, popularly known as “Small Mutiu”; Adebayo Saheed, 28, nicknamed “Poison” and 23-year-old Razaq Jamiu, also nicknamed “Bullet”.
The accused persons were slammed with a three count-charge bearing on murder, conspiracy and belonging to an unlawful society.
The police prosecutor, Mireti Wilson, informed the court that the accused persons, while parading themselves as members of an cult group identified as ” Aye Confraternity,” killed Shina with a machete and an axe.
Wilson said the accused persons committed the offence on August 15, 2016 at Oke-Onitea area in Osogbo.
According to the prosecutor, the suspected cultists belonged to an unlawful group called Aye confraternity.
He maintained that they killed Shina by inflicting fatal injuries on his head with a machete and an axe.
He said the offence committed by the accused persons was contrary to and punishable under Sections 324, 316(1), 319 and 64(a) (b) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Volume II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
However, the pleas of the accused persons were not taken due to the magnitude of the offence committed.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Habibat Bashiru, in her ruling, ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the matter till October 3,  2017, for mention.
