A court in Yola, Adamawa State, has given seven persons, accused of afflicting a three-year-old girl with a strange disease, 24 hours ultimatum to restore the girl’s health.
The suspects were dragged to court by a community leader, the Sarkin Mayu Adamawa, Kabiru Garba.
Hon. Umar Gangs of the Area Court 1 ordered the suspects – two women and five minors – who confessed that they were witches, to do everything they could to ensure the girl in question was revived.
He also ordered the arrest of one of them, a woman simply identified as Dudu, who was said to be at large.
One of the suspects is a 60-year-old woman, identified as Halima Junta. The five minors are between the ages of four and six years.
Halima Jonta confessed at the court that the seven of them had joined hands to bewitch the three-year-old girl.
The ‘kid witches’ narrated how Jonta and the other woman, at large, told them to tie the victim and put a stone in her stomach.
They also confessed that they had planted the soul of a dead person in the three-year-old girl, noting that she would continue to live like a dead person as long as that soul was still in her.
They, however, said they had already untied the little girl and removed the stone in her, but that they would not be able to remove the soul of the dead person.
According to them, Dudu, who is at large, is the only one that can perform that task because she was the one who planted the image in her.
Ruling on the case, Gangs said it was sad how the little children had been mindlessly turned to witches, and ordered immediate restoration of the three-year-old girl.
