Last year, when it was said that Ayo Makun’s wife, Mabel packed out of their matrimonial home, the comedian quickly rubbished it. It was then alleged that AY had turned his wife into a punching bag, which made her run away.
While performing on stage at a comedy show later in the year, AY said, “Yes my wife moved out of the house few weeks back while I travelled for a show outside the country but that was because I decided to fumigate the house. So, my wife moved some of her things out for some days until I got back into the country.”
After that comment from AY, everyone moved on, concluding that the issue could be one of the many unguarded rumours that rock the showbiz industry.
In retrospect, it does seem there is an element of truth in the report of trouble in their marriage. Mabel, on Sunday, attacked a popular Lagos socialite, Freda Francis, and warned her to steer clear of her husband.
When AY shared a selfie taken with Freda Francis at the socialite’s Push Party in Lagos on Sunday night, Mabel wrote, “This is outright wickedness and I won’t take it! I think have had enough of the ridiculing. Freda Francis, stay away from my family and I mean it!”
She didn’t just stop there; she went to her page and posted munched chats between her husband and Freda. While we are yet to know the father of Freda’s unborn baby, the alarm raised by AY’s wife had given rise to speculations that the worse could have happened. Is AY the father of the unborn baby? Who is the father of the unborn baby? These are the questions on the lips of all and s u n d r y. Freda was formerly dating singer Iyanya and that was the last man known with her.
AY is yet to say a word about the development. An online news platform claimed that when they reached him, his response was not warm. He said, “How is my marriage your business? He then dropped the call.”
AY married his wife in 2008 and the union has been blessed with one child, a girl. A close friend to the house told me that their attempt to have a second child hit the rock at a time, as the wife had a miscarriage.
While there is still no clear-cut hint that AY’s marriage to Mabel has gone terribly bad, there are now indications that the once happily married couple are not happy anymore. Mabel didn’t help matters with her action. She had since pulled down her post. But no matter how much deleting she does, the message passed is stuck with the public. The public now know that beyond the smile and glamour on red carpets, it is always serious confrontations in the bedroom. The public now know that her mind is not at rest.
Her act also, in a way, shows that she does not trust her husband. And we are all aware that a marriage without trust is like a time bomb waiting to explode. With the rate at which Nigerian celebrities are battling to stay in marriage, it is glaring that the couple have made their union vulnerable.
As things are with AY and his wife, it will not be a surprise if we wake up tomorrow and hear that their romance is over.
