Hundreds of residents of Osun State heaved a sigh of relief recently as they were relieved of their inadequate water supply problem when a serving National Youth Service Corps member, Blessing Adewale Ayobami, took the initiative to revive the major source of potable water in the Cha Cha Market area along Ondo Road in Ife East.

Having been apprised of the hardship faced by the people of the area concerning water supply, Blessing submitted a project proposal to the state government on March 20, 2017, with aim of using the initiative to tackle headlong the age-long issue.

Luckily, the project proposal was accepted and approved the next day by the state government.

The borehole project worth about N1million, was accomplished by the corps member with the help of some well-to-do individuals in the community and was inaugurated by a former deputy governor of the state, Sooko Adewoyin.

Speaking with our correspondent, the English Language and Literary Studies graduate from the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, said that the need to change the source of water supply for the rural dwellers in that community made her to come up with the borehole project.

It was also meant to demonstrate her love for the people around her and to revive the hope of eradicating water borne-diseases.

She said, “The purpose of the project is to solve the problem of water in the market community within the environment because water is very scarce, especially during dry season.

I realised that the strategic point for the project will be in the market, because lots of people come to the market always. It think when they see water, they can come with their containers and fetch.

This will lead to the reduction in the rate at which people drink well water, which in most cases cause typhoid and cholera.”

Accomplishing the task she had set for herself was, however, not easy as she had to contend initially with some financial challenges.

It was also gathered that the achievement was not a walk in the park for blessing as she revealed that she was faced with some financial challenges at first, but later got help from the community, which aided her progress on the project.

She dislcosed that before she applied for the approval of the project, she had been sourcing for funds.

“The major challenge I faced was generating funds for the project. It was a great challenge for me, but I thank God for all the community members who supported me and in less than two weeks I completed the project’ she said.
