The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria has commended the management of the Edo University, Iyamho, Edo State, on the standard of tuition, academic programmes and state-of-the-art facilities available at the institution.

COREN gave the commendation when its management led by its President, Engr. Kashim Abdul Ali, paid a visit to the university.

While speaking on the state of the Engineering Programmes of the university, the COREN President said that the body had accredited all the Engineering programmes currently offered by the institution, adding, “The University is now well-suited to train undergraduates, who will in turn become qualified engineers in no distant time.”

The COREN team, whose responsibility is to accredit Engineering programmes in Nigerian tertiary institutions, was taken on a tour round the facilities of the university. The team was taken from the Faculty of Engineering to those of Science, Arts, Management and Social Sciences and Law as well as the College of Medical Sciences and Entrepreneurship Development Centre by the Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor.

At the end of the tour of the university, the COREN boss expressed satisfaction with the state-of-the-art facilities available, adding that they could compare with facilities available in similar institutions across the globe.

According to him, “I have gone round university campuses, both locally and internationally, the facilities here are first class; they can compare with any facility you can see anywhere in the world. The Engineering Programmes have met the basic requirements.”

The COREN president also eulogised the Edo State Government for its vision in establishing a world class university that could compete favourably with any other in the world.

He observed that the structures were solid, the environment serene and that some of the equipment available at the university, like the smart board used in teaching in the Lecture Theatres and others, could only be found in universities outside Nigeria.

“I am proud that a state university could be this well-equipped and managed and that it can confidently bring any of its foreign counterparts to Edo University, Iyamho, as its meet International Standard in all its ramification”, he noted.

Edo University, Iyamho, currently employs modern technology and highly qualified academic staff in different disciplines in training undergraduates, who after graduating would initiate programmes, plans and implement public and private sector policies.

“The Edo University, Iyamho that is yet to graduate its first set of Students is rated the best State University in Nigeria among 42 State Universities in the Country, which is only older than Ogun State University of Science and Technology,” the VC, Prof. Aluyor, said.

He further explained that the university had also been rated third-best among 39 Federal and 77 private universities in Nigeria based on the results of the open educational resources assessment of universities in Nigeria, recently conducted by the Nigerian Universities Commission.

The VC promised that the university would put more efforts in ensuring it became the number one university in Nigeria and maintained its academic standard.
