The Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria has commended the management of BUA Cement for heeding its appeal to consider reducing the price of its cement product, adding that the over 35% reduction in price is a gesture in patriotism that should be commended.

In a statement, the Council underscored the importance of affordability on the part of consumers, and patriotism on the part of manufacturers, stating: “Further to calls made recently by the Chairman, Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria, Samson Amen Opaluwah, on the need for manufacturers of building products to urgently reduce prices, Council notes with delight the ex-factory price reduction of BUA Cement by over 35%,’ adding that the gesture is a welcome development, and ‘Council commends the patriotism of the Management of BUA Group led by Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu.”

The Council Chairman noted that housing is an essential need of humanity and that efforts must be made to ensure that it is conveniently accessible to every Nigerian.

He encouraged other cement manufacturers to do the needful toward enabling Nigerians to realize their dreams of home ownership.

Opaluwah said, “We hereby call on other manufacturers of cement, which is a major cost item in building works, as well as other manufacturers of building products to follow suit in a bid to reduce cost of building production in Nigeria.”

He called on cement manufacturing companies and research intuitions to work together toward adopting new methods of housing production that could complement cement, and trigger reduction in cost of building production, saying, “I wish to challenge construction companies and professionals in the built environment to adopt findings of extensive research already conducted towards commercialization and use of cement replacement items (pozzolana) to further bring about reduction in building cost and improve accessibility to the teeming populace.”

The Council Chair assured that CORBON will continue to promote innovative ways of reducing the cost of buildings in the country.
