Company accuses staff of stealing 10 trailer loads of tyres

An oil and gas company based in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, has accused Rabiu Akheem, one of its staff of stealing 10 trailer loads of tyres belonging to the organization.

Akheem, aged 35, was arraigned at an Osogbo Chief Magistrate’s Court recently for theft and conspiracy.

Akheem, who is said to be a driver to the company, allegedly diverted the goods to an unknown destination while he was also accused of stealing two batteries.

Police prosecutor, John Idoko, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, informed the court that the defendant conspired with others at large to commit the offence on May 10, 2022 in Osogbo.

The allegedly stolen goods were valued at N2, 040,000.

The charges brought him read that “Rabiu Akheem and others now at large, on the 10th day of May, 2022 at about 10am in Osogbo, did conspire amongst yourselves to commit felony to wit: stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Law of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

“You did steal 10 trailer tyres valued at N1,900,000 and two heavy batteries valued at N140,000, all totaled N2,040,000, property of one Sarp Oil and Gas Company and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Volume II Law of Osun State of Nigeria.”

The defendant, who was not legally represented, entered into a not guilty plea to the accusations.

Chief Magistrate Olusola Aluko remanded him in Ilesa Correctional Centre until a formal bail application is presented.

The case was adjourned till July 12 for mention.
