The Chairman, Council of Heads of Polytechnics and Colleges of Technology in Nigeria, Alhaji Mas’ud Elelu, has blamed the government for the continuous dearth of skilled manpower in the country.
He said that the current situation arose due to the refusal of the government to fund the technical schools to enable them to fulfil their mandate.
The COHEADS chairman spoke against the backdrop of the recent launch of the Skills Gap Assessment Report and the revelation by the Director-General of the Industrial Training Fund, Joseph Ari, that Nigerians still lacked the requisite skills to get employment in trade areas, such as plant operations, artisanal trade and technical trade.
Elelu noted in a chat with our correspondent that government at all levels should take the blame as they had not helped in funding and provision of equipment to technical schools across the country.
