Carney Chukwuemeka started his second game under new Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino in the Blues’ 4-3 win over Brighton in the Premier League summer series, a preseason tournament being played in the United States.
While he did not register a goal contribution he was heavily involved in action in the seven-goal thriller.
The 19-year-old had a hand in his side’s first goal when his shot deflected into the path of Christopher Nkunku who buried the ball deftly into the net for his second preseason goal.
Danny Welbeck had earlier given Brighton the lead in the 13th minute before Nkunku restored parity.
Chelsea would go on a rampage in the second half after Jan Paul van Hecke got sent off for a foul on Cesare Casadei.
Mykhailo Mudryk gave Pochettino’s side the lead in the 65th minute after a nice exchange of passes with Nicolas Jackson while Conor Gallagher and Jackson got the third and fourth goal respectively.
However, Brighton put up a fight to reduce the deficit with goals from Joao Pedro and Deniz Undav which ensured that the game had a nervy end.
Chukwuemeka did not feature for the entirety of the game as he was replaced at the start of the second half by Casedei.
The Super Eagles-eligible midfielder will be hoping to get more minutes under his belt and continue to impress his new manager as Chelsea face Newcastle, Fulham and Borussia Dortmund in forthcoming preseason games.
