Since her father got separated from her mother for over 10 years now, Basirat (not real name), has secretly become an object of sexual satisfaction for her father identified as Afeez Adewale.

Adewale did not only defile her biological daughter severally, he also failed to take good care of her, a situation that made her easy prey for other randy men in the Owode area, a community outskirt Osogbo, capital of Osun State where she lived with her father.

Basirat is said to be around 23 years of age, but due to her intellectual disability, many men reportedly took advantage of her and sexually molested her in unimaginable manners.

The Point gathered that reprieve came to Basirat after some observant residents alerted a human rights activist in the state, Citizen Lola Wey and revealed how she was confined and sexually assaulted by his father’s friend, Hakeem Abdulrauf, for months.

Swiftly, Wey intervened and rescued Basirat after reporting her ordeals to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Osogbo.

Operatives of the NSCDC, Isale-Agbara, Osogbo division, led by their Divisional Officer, Samson Adeyemi, immediately swung into action and arrested Abdulrauf and rescued the victim.

Adeyemi told The Point that efforts were underway to apprehend Basirat’s father and a Muslim cleric popularly known as Alfa, who also kept Basirat in his house, allegedly had several sexual intercourse with her in the name of healing her of suspected epilepsy.

When The Point engaged Basirat in an interview, she narrated how her father had been secretly molesting and abusing her sexually since her mother left her, adding that he also failed to take proper care of her.

She said ever since Abdulrauf lured her into his house and started having forceful sexual activities with her, Adewale did not bother to look for her and that when she managed to escape from Abdulrauf, her father was already drunk and he sent her back.

Confessing how he serially defiled Basirat, Abdulrauf, in an exclusive interview with The Point at the NSCDC station in Osogbo, said he wanted to make her his wife.

The suspect, a battery charger at Owode Ilesa area, explained that in 2022, a woman identified as Iya Suliyat had encouraged him to harbour Basirat and that while he was discussing with Iya Suliyat, Basirat walked along the street and he decided to take her to his house.

He said she had spent two months inside his apartment, having sex with her at will, before he asked her to go and tell her father that he was interested in making Basirat his wife.

“When I asked who her (Basirat) father is after about two months of staying with me, she told me her father’s name and I discovered that he is my friend. I then asked her to go and inform her father that I am interested in making her my wife. She went to their house but she returned to me, saying that her father was drunk and that he sent her back.

“She continued staying with me despite that I discovered that she is suffering from what looks like epilepsy because at night after we might have finished eating and having sex, she will be convulsing and stretching her body. I changed my mind about making her my wife when she was laughing at me after policemen arrested me last December for an offence.

“I really want to have a child I can call my own, that was why I did what I did,” Abdulrauf added.

Meanwhile, Wey, a human rights activist, has asked the civil defence to ensure it arrests Alfa, Basirat’s father and Iya Suliyat who introduced Basirat to Abdulrauf, saying they should be made to face the wrath of the law for violating and abusing the victim.

She explained that Basirat has been taken to the hospital for necessary examinations and that she has been kept at a safe home in Osogbo.
