Burglar detained for stealing shoes, clothes worth N1.5m

Policemen attached to Satellite Police Station have arraigned a 22-year-old man, Tom Oluwadare, at a Magistrate court in Apapa, Lagos State, for allegedly breaking into a shop belonging to a woman.

Oluwadare allegedly stole shoes and clothes valued at N1.5m in the plaintiff’s shop.

The Investigative Police Officer handling the case, Inspector Blessing Anyanwu, said that Oluwadare committed the offence at Mosalashi Bus stop, along Old Ojo Road, Kuje, Amuwo- Odofin,
Lagos.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Tijani Folake, represented by Inspector Edet Ekpo, said that Oluwadare’s accomplices were at large.

The charge read that the accused persons, “did conspire to commit felony to wit; stealing and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria,
2015.”

The second count stated that the accused person and others now at large “did steal shoes and clothes valued at one million, five hundred thousand naira (N1,500,000.00) only, properties of one Amaka Mbanaso and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

They were said to have broken into Mbanaso’s shop at Mosalashi Bus stop, along Old Ojo Road, contrary to Section 307 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

However, Oluwadare pleaded not guilty to the three-count charges preferred against him.

The presiding Magistrate, Mr. N.A. Layeni, granted the accused person bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties.
