Buhari nominates media aide, Onochie, 3 others as INEC Commissioners

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has nominated his Special Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, as a National Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan read the President’s letter of request for the confirmation of Onochie, who is from Delta State, at plenary.

Buhari also nominated Prof. Muhammad Sani Kallah, from Katsina; and Prof. Kunle Cornelius Ajayi, from Ekiti; for confirmation as National Electoral Commissioners.

Saidu Babura Ahmad, from Jigawa State, was nominated as a Resident Electoral Commissioner.

“Pursuant to Paragraph 14 of Part I(F) of the Third Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended, I hereby forward for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of the following four (4) Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),” the President’s letter read in part.

In a separate letter to the Senate, Buhari also requested the confirmation of the appointments of three Executive Directors for the Board of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency.

The request for confirmation is in accordance with the provision of Section 2(3) of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (Amendment) Act 2007, according to him.

The nominees include: Ifeanyi Christian Kammelu (Executive Director – South East); Muhammad Gambo Bizi (Executive Director – North East); and Abubakar Ismail (Executive Director – North West).
