President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday inaugurated the most senior judge on the Supreme Court bench, Justice Walter Onnoghen, as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria.
The inauguration ceremony, witnessed by top government functionaries, took place inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and followed the retirement of former CJN, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 70 years.
Onnoghen is expected to act until the name of a substantive CJN is forwarded to the Senate for approval.
