The National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers has urged the Federal Government to bridge the huge gap between the few rich and millions of Nigerians living in mass poverty, through progressive taxation and creation of opportunities for many to earn a decent living.

President, NUTGTW, Comrade John Adaji, explained that though the N500 billion programme of the government, which has assured 200,000 jobs, is commendable, the poor should not depend on charity to survive.

“What the poor need are opportunities opened to the rich, so that they can get sustainable jobs with sustainable incomes. It is time to reopen all closed factories and employ the army of unemployed,” he said.

Also, he praised the government on security and anti-corruption, which he said the administration has done remarkably well. “The high point on security is the secure of 102 chibok girls criminally abducted. In the next two years, the Buhari administration must ensure inclusive economic growth and development,” Adaji added.
