As the Edo Governorship election approaches, supporters of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party have resorted to violence, as thugs from the two sides clashed on Saturday in front of the Palace of the Oba of Benin.
Benin Billionaire, Captain Hosa Okunbo was at the Palace of the Oba of Benin on a courtesy visit, accompanied by a crowd of supporters.
Coincidentally, this happened at the same time the PDP leaders, led by Governor Godwin Obaseki and Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, were on ground to also pay a visit to His Royal Majesty, the Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II.
It was gathered that Obaseki was booed at the Palace by supporters of the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
Minutes after Obaseki’s exit, supporters of the two parties clashed, with thugs opening fire on innocent residents and journalists running for safety.
All vehicles that had APC stickers were reportedly destroyed.
As at the time of filing this report, over 10 residents were rushed to the hospital as a result of gunshot injuries.
