Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly attacked a Nigerian military base in Adamawa State, killing one person and carting away two military rifles.

It was gathered that the terrorists attacked Hembla village in the Madagali Local Government Area of the state on Saturday around 7pm.

They reportedly targeted a military base, aiming to loot military hardware; however, they were repelled, according to local sources.

A gallant vigilante was killed in the crossfire, while two rifles belonging to the Nigerian Army were carted away by the terrorists.

“My neighbour was killed and two others sustained gunshot injuries,” an eyewitness who does not want his identity disclosed said.

He added, “Troops of the Nigerian armed forces led by a Captain fondly called Konduga, repelled the terrorists and denied them entry into our village.”

Another eyewitness, a member of the vigilante group said, “They came around 6:45pm yesterday in large number; I saw more than 100 fighters. But our soldiers put up resistance and pushed them back into the Sambisa Forest.”

The Local Government Council Chairman of Madagali, Musa Shashi has confirmed the incident saying, “Yes, it is true, Boko Haram fighters visited Hembla; we suspect their mission was to steal military weapons.

“We lost one member of the local vigilante in the process, and they (Boko Haram) plundered two rifles from the military.”

Shashi however assured that calm had returned, emphasising that the troops were on top of the situation.
