A tragic incident unfolded at Olobe Farm, Igbajo in Osun State on Friday as a swarm of bees attacked three farmers, killing one and leaving two others seriously injured.

The deceased, Abideen Olabiyi, hailed from Alalade compound in Ada.

He was working on the farm alongside Solomon Kingsley and Chief Olusegun Alalade when the swarm struck.

Confirming the incident, the Osun State Police Command provided a situation report through its Otan Ayegbaju Division.

The report stated that the three men were attacked suddenly and without warning.

“One Babasanjo Alalade of Alalade compound, Ada, reported that his brothers had gone to Olobe Farm when they were attacked by a swarm of bees,” the police report said.

It continued, “Mr Abideen Olabiyi lost his life in the attack while Mr Solomon Kingsley and Chief Olusegun Alalade sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital for treatment.”

The two surviving victims are currently receiving care at an undisclosed medical facility in Ada, Osun State, where their conditions are reported to be critical.

Police detectives visited the scene shortly after the incident.

According to their account, photographs were taken, and the area was examined for further threats or evidence.

Olabiyi’s body was removed from the scene and taken to Healthy Paradise Mortuary in Ikirun, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted to confirm the cause of death.

A local resident who visited the farm after the attack said, “It was shocking to hear what happened. Bees are not usually aggressive unless provoked, but we don’t know what triggered this.”
