Bandits abduct teachers, students, kill policeman in Kebbi

Bandits on Thursday stormed Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, Yauri Local Government of Kebbi State, killing one Mobile Policeman and injuring two other MOPOL operatives and abducting teachers and students.

Abdullahi Bala, an eyewitness, said
“The bandits transported the students comprising male and female in the MOPOL Hilux and the school bus.
“One of the two vehicles broke down, which made the bandits to transport the student from the broken down vehicle on their already overloaded motorcycles.

“They set some of the students free because they cannot take all of them on their motorcycles.
“I am moving my family away to Warra now. We are scared. This people might come back here,” Abdullahi said.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the killing of one police officer and abduction five teachers and unspecified number of students at the school.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeleke Adeyinka-Bode, confirmed the incident to newsmen on Thursday.
“The truth is that the attack took place; and five teachers have been taken away – four male and one female.
“But the number of students abducted is not known yet.

“The attack took place around 12pm; and during the cross fire between police and the bandits some students had been injured and one police officer was injured and another one was killed.

“These are the facts I can give you, for now.”

He added that only the principal of the school could give the exact number of students abducted.

“The principal is not in a good state of mind as I am speaking to you now; because parents have trooped into the school searching for their children.

“So the principal cannot make proper head count.”

One of the parents of the abducted students who spoke via phone said; “as I am talking to you now my son is in the school and I am on my way to that school.”
