The presiding Pastor and General Overseer of the Citadel Global Church, Tunde Bakare, has faulted the transition programme of General Abdulsalami Abubakar, which gave birth to the current democracy in Nigeria in 1999.

Speaking on Democracy Day via Zoom, Bakare argued that the Gen Abdulsalami transition programme was too hasty and failed to lay good foundation for the country.

Bakare observed that the passing away of Gen Sanni Abacha (retd) offered Nigeria a chance to return to nationhood but Abdulsalami handed over to civilians without a constitutional conference. He said, “the sooner we address this, the sooner we will give ourselves the chance to foster the Nigeria of our dreams.”
He said that restructuring the country had become even more inevitable.

“All the separatist agenda will end the moment equity is enthroned. The constitution that will not bend will break,” he declared.

It has been 22 years since the Minna born General handed over power to civilians after being in office from June 9, 1998 to May 29, 1999.
